As early as the 2nd week of pregnancy, there are already collections of cells destined to become certain structures – your skin, your nervous system, your muscles and your organs.

I have a small amount of background in developmental biology (particularly the development of muscle), but even the smallest awareness of what’s happening during embryonic development opens your eyes to how amazing this all is.  And, perhaps most amazing of all, is that the whole shebang doesn’t go awry more often.
